I hunt for pictures of my type of Dodge truck, the M-37 (G741). Korean War pics are the hardest to find since the truck was new in 1951 and they used mostly old WW2 Dodge WCs. My luck today was Vietnam trucks, they used them through that war. I also watch personal movie footage and grab stills. A lot of the vets personal sites were made a long time ago and are not the best, so that makes it harder. I have learned quite a bit about both wars hunting through the archives.

No there is a point where the government purges records, we know when Dodge made them but we don’t know where they were deployed. If you have very unique original bumper marking you might be able to get a clue. I know my bumpers aren’t original. I do somehow know the last place my truck was in service, it was on a base in Indiana. My truck was actually a command truck with a couple radios and antennas, it’s called an M42, the ambulance was an M43, there are variations like Air Force crash truck, line trucks etc.. It went on to be in the Army Corps of Engineers after and then MA federal fire got it. Sort of proves the toughness of these things! The guy I bought it from was a fireman and bought it from work and did a bunch of work before he sold it, but he did find some record that must have gone through the federal system with it saying it was in the Army in Indiana.

It is fascinating to look through all the pictures, there is so much I didn’t know. A lot of them have notes from the people about whatever is going on. The pic with the girls had a note saying he wished the girls would leave the guys alone because if you had an STD or got into drugs they wouldn’t fly you back to the US until you were rehabilitated. They didn’t want bad press. The other thing that amazed me was the amount of construction we did in Nam, they built highways and all kinds of stuff, thousands of construction workers were housed in barracks they built and some of the pictures of the projects look like they are huge.
